After her grandmother was killed in a mugging near their home, Meli Noble uproots her family and moves them to the village of Farfield. But her illusion of country living, of finding a safe haven in which to raise her children is soon dashed. Within weeks of moving in to Brambly Hollow Lodge, mysterious events begin to happen, usually when Meli is on her own. Someone was entering the cottage; things went missing or were damaged, and there would be unexplained smells and infestations of flies, and most alarming of all, Meli feels that she is being watched. Meli suspects that their elderly neighbor, Elsa Vitty, is somehow responsible. Although Elsa appears harmless enough at first, if a little eccentric, she soon shows a more sinister side when she begins a malicious campaign against them. What does Elsa have against Meli and her family?

Determined not to be driven out, Meli begins a desperate search for the truth which puts her life in danger when it reveals that Elsa wasn’t the only person in the village with a secret past.
