A Cat and his human minions fight to bring peace to humanity.
"Craig Martelle is a masterful writer with a grand imagination."
"Reminiscent of science fiction of the 60s. Sort of a cross between Star Man's Son 2250AD by Andre Norton and Robert Heinlein's Tunnel in the Sky."
"You clearly are, like the great Asimov, a master of Science Fiction."
The Free Trader takes you to a world across the galaxy, where humans are not the only sentient species. After a devastating war, humanity and its creations rise again. The Free Trader finds himself at a crossroads - can he and his Cat prevent a repeat of past mistakes?
And the follow-on series...

From the Author
The Free Trader series is a favorite of mine. I've wanted to write it forever, but didn't have the time until recently. Once I committed to capturing the world of Cygnus VII, the stories took on a life of their own. The characters became more than I imagined. They fought, survived, worked, and fought some more. Much of what they discovered helped them establish a central trade route, which they alone are equipped to defend. This series explores the power of human and animal bonding, equal players in the game of life.
Inspired by James M. Ward's Gamma World (TM) and Metamorphosis Alpha (TM) role playing games and Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern(C), the Free Trader series will take the readers on a variety of adventures wrapped around one central theme. Can Braden and his companions ever bring peace to Planet Vii?

Following the civil war on the human colonized world of Cygnus VII, humanity and its creations rise again. Free Trader Braden and his mindlinked Hillcat are plying the trade routes of Warren Deep when things start to get hot. Giving events time to be forgotten, Braden gathers engineered (mutant) creatures to him for a trip south of the Great Desert where he hopes to find Old Tech that he can trade for untold riches. The more he learns about the ancients, the more he wants to learn. Along the way, he establishes a new ideal regarding trade and collaboration in the south where trust of strangers is unknown. Braden and his companions, a Hawkoid, a Hillcat, a Tortoid, and a female warrior find that some Old Tech still functions, with the potential to change their world for the better or worse, depending on what they decide.
